BOARD SEEKS JUSTICE ADMINISTRATIVE COMMISSION APPLICANTS
The Florida Bar Board of Governors is seeking applicants for a vacancy on the Justice Administrative Commission (JAC).
The vacancy will be filled during the Board of Governors’ December 11 meeting. Lawyer applicants must be members of The Florida Bar and in good standing.
Justice Administrative Commission: One attorney to serve the remainder of a two-year term commencing immediately and expires on June 30, 2028. Members of the JAC serve for two-year terms, with terms commencing July 1. Three state attorneys are appointed by the president of the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association. Two public defenders are appointed by the president of the Florida Public Defender Association. One criminal defense attorney who is not employed by the government and who has contracted with the commission to provide services pursuant to §27.40 within the five years preceding their appointment, to be appointed by the president of The Florida Bar Board of Governors. One judge or senior judge serving on a court, to be appointed by the chief justice of the Supreme Court.
The Justice Administrative Commission, a state agency created in 1965, provides administrative services on behalf of 49 judicial related offices (JROs).
Currently, the JAC administratively serves 20 Offices of State Attorney, 20 Offices of Public Defender, five Offices of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, three Offices of Capital Collateral Regional Counsel, and the Statewide Guardian ad Litem Office. Services provided are primarily in the areas of accounting, budget, financial services, and human resources. While the JAC administratively serves these JROs, the JAC does not supervise, direct, or control the JROs it serves.
The JAC also conducts compliance and financial reviews of billings for services provided by private court-appointed attorneys representing indigent persons and associated due process vendors.
Applications will be accepted until close of business on Monday, October 26. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application. The Board of Governors will review all applications and may request telephone or personal interviews.
